Q: How does the OAC operate?

A: The OAC operates as a 'virtual enterprise'. The OAC has no employees. Every OAC resource person is engaged on contract, on a part-time basis to carry out the 'baseline operations' of the OAC. OAC resource persons may be assigned to manage and support specific projects, events, activities, etc. that the OAC undertakes from time to time that are over and above OAC 'baseline operations'.

'Baseline operations' of the OAC are those whose costs are covered by annual membership fees; these are:

  1. Supporting the functioning of the OAC Board of Directors who provide governance and leadership for the OAC.
  2. Administering OAC Memberships – recruiting, financial administration, miscellaneous services, etc.
  3. Providing communications to Members about business opportunities, events and activities of business value, via email communications and the OAC website.
  4. Organizing two significant annual events – the AGM in the Fall and another event in the Spring – that deliver business value to Members.
  5. Securing resources for priority projects and activities.
  6. Liaising with other industry associations and Provincial and Federal governments to enhance the profile of the Ontario aerospace industry.

All other projects, activities, events, etc. in which OAC participates must be funded as separate and individual undertakings, with full cost recovery for the time provided by OAC resource persons and for all other costs. This includes trade development activities (trade shows, missions, etc.), all strategic initiatives, OAC forums, etc..
